How We Built a Travel Community's Digital Home in 14 Days (When Failure Wasn't an Option)
Black Travel Expo wanted to bring in speakers for their next travel expo. They were pretty positive about their annual celebration of Black heritage through travel. But people had nowhere to register for the event. No functional website. No booking system. No way for eager attendees to secure spots or speakers to confirm participation. Everything felt broken on day zero. The event was approaching fast, and they had about 14 days to build a complete digital platform from scratch. Not 14 weeks. Not 14 months. Two weeks to create the online foundation for an entire community celebration. No pressure.
The Reality Check: Why Most Agencies Would Run
Here’s what we were actually signing up for:
Building separate registration pages for speakers and attendees (because travel industry professionals have different needs than vacation planners).
Designing user flows that don’t confuse people who just want to celebrate Black culture through travel.
Oh, and making it all work perfectly on mobile, because nobody’s booking travel events on desktop anymore.
